Butterfly Story

Butterfly Story

The butterfly provides us with a demonstration of supernatural truths. A butterfly begins its life as a caterpillar, crawling around earth-bound, having no idea of the DNA within it to become a beautiful creature gracing the sky. Before the caterpillar can become a butterfly, it must undergo a complete transformation, a metamorphosis. In the chrysalis, nothing remains of the old caterpillar except the original DNA.

How does this apply to me? This story is about a spiritual journey of truth-telling, mind change, and transformation. The Bible calls this confession, repentance, and transformation.

CONFESSION – Confessing my sin of unbelief in who I am, and Whose I am.

REPENTANCE – Jesus speaks truth into my being. The Greek word for repent is (metanoia) which means “a change of mind, a reorientation, a fundamental transformation of outlook, of man’s vision of the world and himself, and a new way of loving others and God.” The Hebrew word for repent (teshuvah) means literally “to return” as if turning back to something you’ve strayed or looked away from. Compare it to the prodigal’s return.

TRANSFORMATION – This means a metamorphosis “A change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one, by natural or supernatural means.”

A change of mind (metanoia) leads to a metamorphosis, a transformation!
