Finding Rest in Our Work

Finding Rest in Our Work

I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of work. If you are like many believers in our culture, you might regularly feel exhausted, burned out, overwhelmed, and spread too thin.

As Christians, everything we do is meant to be for the glory of God. Therefore, any work, whether job, career, vocation, assignment, or chore, is meant to be done unto the Lord. We might not be called to pastor a church or travel overseas as missionaries. Nevertheless, the task that the Lord sets before us, at any given moment, is our holy work. Folding the family laundry can be as important to the Kingdom of God as leading an underground church, as long as it is WHAT THE LORD INTENDS for us.

What if we don’t enjoy what the Lord has us doing in this season? The Lord provides a solution…SABBATH REST. If we go back to the basics of rest, as God proposed, I believe we can find joy in anything we do because we know how to be rejuvenated in His rest. To me, Sabbath rest means that we prioritize the sacred.

Hebrews 4:9-11 says, “So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his…”

In Genesis 2:2-3, the Father demonstrates the importance of resting from work. While on earth, Jesus illustrated the REST OF GOD by prioritizing time in solitude with the Father, sharing fellowship with His followers, and honoring the Sabbath.

Because of this demanding world, we might need to evaluate and change our habits, consecrating more time to Him. Sabbath rest can be an event and a way of life as long as we give precedence to the sacred things of God.
