Psalm 139:9,10: “If I ride the morning winds to the farthest oceans, EVEN THERE your hand will guide, your strength will support me.”
These are intriguing verses. Where ARE the farthest oceans? Point Nemo is an ocean location that is the farthest away from any land in the world. Astronauts would be the closest humans! THAT is a far ocean!
King David rode the morning winds of Carelessness. The lost sheep in Luke 18 rode the winds of Curiosity and Corrie Ten Boom rode the winds of Catastrophe.
David was careless in his duty to his army. He was idle instead of engaged. Carelessness led him to lust, adultery, deception, and eventually murder. EVEN THERE, God’s hand led him back to relationship and supported him as he led Israel.
The lost sheep was curious. Ah…the winds of curiosity. Our enemy has used this trap for many believers. Something was a little “different” to the sheep – a little further up the path, away from the flock. The taste was “new,” and the Shepherd’s voice had grown faint. Before long…he was lost on a dark mountain. EVEN THERE, the Shepherd found him, bore his weight, and brought him back to the flock.
During WWII, Corrie Ten Boom, a middle-aged believer was betrayed and arrested by the Gestapo in Holland for hiding Jews. The morning winds of Catastrophe carried her to Ravensbrück, an extermination camp of disease, starvation, and death. Her father and sister perished. EVEN THERE, God’s hand, through a clerical error, brought her release and a worldwide ministry.
Morning winds can take us to far oceans through our own decisions, or we can be carried by inexorable circumstances.
EVEN THERE, God’s hands are not shortened. He will guide us back home, as we trust Him.
