Offense is the groundwork for bitterness. This suggests that when someone experiences offense, it can serve as a foundation or starting point for developing feelings of bitterness. How can we not be hurt or worse, become angry because of someone’s actions, words, or behavior? As a result, we feel wronged, mistreated, disrespected, or even justified in righteous anger.
Our Pastor highlighted the King James Version in his Sunday message: 1 Corinthians 10:32: “Give none offense, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God.” Paul was clear. Whatever we choose to do, or not do, should bring glory to God. Give none offense.
If our hearts are bitter, our feelings are hurt and we are offended by the words or actions of others, that is not Glory to God. If we have hurt others because of our words or actions, that is not Glory to God.
Jesus said to Peter in Matthew 16:23:” Get behind me Satan! You are a hindrance to me.” Like Peter, are we not setting our minds on the things of God. Could our minds be set on things of the world instead? That is not Glory to God.
The enemy wants nothing more than to anchor that root and hold that bitterness in our hearts. That is not Glory to God.
Replace your bitterness with peace. When it hurts, give grace and when you’re angry, forgive. When it’s hard, call on Jesus. That is Glory to God.
