Some Important Words

Our culture seems to be fueled by outrage, offense and criticism. This atmosphere can be suffocating to our peace. We can actually create a new atmosphere of contentment, peace and encouragement. We can speak differently.

God’s word, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” Proverbs 18:21.

I have experienced feeling despondent when an uplifting word has made such a difference. Deuteronomy 3:18, “The Lord, Himself, goes before you and will be with you.”

Loneliness may be dispelled by a smile and words of inclusion…” We belong to the Lord.” Romans 14:8.

Anger can be turned away with just a gentle reply. Proverbs 15:1, “A soft answer turns away wrath…”

Expecting reproof, but receiving kindness may open a heart that’s been sealed tightly against hurt. Proverbs 15:4, “A gentle tongue is a tree of life…”

Weariness can be lifted by words of faith and strength. Isaiah 41:10, “…I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Sorrow may be eased by comforting words of solace. Hebrews 13:5, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”

I learned this little ditty many years ago and it’s a keeper:

6 very important wordsI admit I made a mistake.
5 very important words…You did a good job.
4 very important words…What is your opinion?
3 very important words…If you please.
2 very important words…Thank you.
1 very important word…We.

Isn’t it wonderful to know we carry God’s words that bring life? They can build bridges, assuage pain, encourage and inspire, soothe anger, and lift truth and beauty to a world of outrage and deception.

All we have to do is use them!
