What Cover?

In Genesis 2, God said to Adam and Eve, “You may freely eat from every tree of the garden; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, otherwise on the day that you eat from it, you shall most certainly die.”

Because of God’s love for Adam and Eve, He gave them rules to protect them. They disobeyed and there were consequences. Genesis 3:7, “Then the eyes of the two of them were opened and they knew that they were naked; and they fastened fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.” They tried to cover their sin, but then God did something beautiful. “The Lord God made tunics of skins for Adam and his wife and clothed them.” (Genesis 3:21). God’s love.

God gave us rules to protect us and when we disobey, there are consequences. The consequence of sin is death, to be separated from God forever. The only way we can be saved is to be covered by God. Just like Adam and Even, we often try to cover ourselves, but God demonstrates His love to His creation by covering us Himself. There are many times we will feel ashamed in front of God, but there is good news! “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive,” (1 Corinthians 15:22). Yes, Adam brought sin to everyone, but God would cover everyone through the blood of His son, Jesus Christ!

God shows His mercy to us by removing our fig leaves and covering us with Jesus’ blood. Ephesians 1:7 says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness and complete pardon of our sin, in accordance with the riches of His grace…”

That is Good News!
