Have you ever had a battle in your mind where your thoughts became negative, influenced by trauma, personal fears and insecurities or weariness? In 2 Corinthians 10:5, the Bible tells us to cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and to bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. So how do we do this? How in the world are we supposed to control our thinking?!
Jesus showed us in Matthew 4:1-11 when he was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. He brought all of those thoughts, and ideas that where outside of the will of God into submission by going back to what was written and standing on those promises. In EVERY scenario, Jesus responded “…it is written.”
The Word of God is our weapon! In Ephesians 6:17 it is called “the sword of the Spirit”. There is no quantity or sequence of words that you could conjure up on your own that will win a spiritual battle. The Word of God is our only weapon powerful enough to win such battles.
Jesus, God in the flesh, was tempted by the enemy and chose the word of God to protect and defend. Why would we think any other strategy would work better?
It is our responsibility to read and learn what God has said about who He is, who we are, and His desires. When you study your Bible, you are literally suiting up with the proper tools and getting ready for battle. And when you choose to stand on what you have learned in the Word, it is then that you can say to your negative thought, “It is written!”
