Church Restoration

Church Restoration

A nearby, aging country church has recently been transformed. Passing the building several times a week for the past months, I’ve seen the roof dismantled, rebuilt with new trusses, and re-shingled. The steeple and its supporting structure were removed and placed on their side in the front yard, waiting for the roofing to be completed. The exterior was faded and worn, needing paint.

This became, for me, a picture of God’s church in these pivotal times. The church steeple lying in the grass for weeks was a graphic display of what has been lacking in recent years. It should have been a sign pointing upward to the heavens to reveal “where our help comes from…” (Psalm 121:1). The culture-shaping influence of the cross was laid aside in the dust. Government corruption, internal national strife, and violence in our streets now prevail. The exterior (what we portray to the world), faded and weathered, had lost its luster in attracting new believers. The interior shows the stains of sin and the weariness of religion without power.

Is the church obsolete – faith elusive? NO and NO! The local church is the vehicle God will use to usher in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. God knew our sins and shortcomings when he planned “the last days.” “Perilous times shall come” is a warning we cannot ignore, as they are already encroaching (2 Timothy 3:1). Jesus, son of a carpenter and son of God, the creator, is the qualified BUILDER OF THE CHURCH (Matthew 16:18).

The country church is now restored. On Sunday, the parking lot was full. He is the one who will make the church ready for His purposes. The local church is integral to His plan. What you contribute is important. ENGAGE!
