Bearing of Fruit

Bearing of Fruit

As I was working outside and pulling weeds around my flowers that were coming up this spring, I noticed the similarity between the weeds and the flowers. Because of my years of gardening, I realize, at a glance, what needs to be pulled and cast aside and what needs to be nurtured to bloom. Inexperienced gardeners cannot tell flowers from weeds. They must learn to pinpoint identifying features.

This makes me think of the scripture of the parable of the wheat and the tares in Matthew 13:24-30. Verse 30 says: “ Let both (the wheat and the tares) grow together until the harvest. At that time, I will tell the harvesters: First, collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.” As we grow nearer to the great end-time harvest, we need to do some evaluation.

As I ponder this scripture, I am prompted to check myself personally to see if there is fruit in my daily walk that needs to be cast aside. We must ask ourselves if our life harvest shows others that we belong to God.
