Recently I’ve been asking myself an important question, “If Jesus were living my life, with my limitations, gifts, and calling, what would my life look like?
I believe my reason for getting up each day would be to focus on 1) Fellowship with my loving Father, and 2) The spiritual needs of my community, family, and the Church. To do this well, I need to grow more like Jesus. See if you can relate to some of the obstacles I deal with…
First, in a world where God is not ranked above all else, to go against the culture, is to look odd. For as long as I can remember, I have struggled with PEOPLE PLEASING. When I became a follower of Christ, 32 years ago, I started to realize that the only One I need to please is the Lord. Yet, I find myself too concerned with what others think of me at times. Jesus wants to eliminate every idol.
Second, God is faithful but I am INCONSISTENT. Sometimes I realize I’m acting like a chameleon, adapting to the environment around me. When that atmosphere is against Jesus, I sometimes shrink in silence, for fear of hurting someone’s feelings. The Lord wants me to be who He has called me to be in all circumstances.
Those are my major hurdles. What are yours? If Jesus were living your life, how would it look on a daily basis? Perhaps your life is on track. If not, consider the impediments and ask God to help you overcome them.
If we can master the wisdom in Micah 6:8, I think we will live authentically and true to His purposes, “What does the Lord require of you? Simply do justice; love kindness; and walk humbly with your God.”
