The Golden Hour

The Golden Hour

It is the time of day when the sun is at an angle that makes everything look “golden.” I sit by the window in the morning, having my quiet time. I watch as the trees start to glow. It is that time of day when the sun is “face to face “with creation.

The term “pros” (face to face) is what the Apostle John uses in the prologue of his Gospel. “The Word was first, the Word present to (face to face with) God, God present to (face to face with) the Word.” (John 1:1 MSG). This is so much more than sitting side by side.

John goes on to say, “Everything was created through Him; nothing- not one thing! -came into being without Him. What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness could not put it out (John 1:1-5 MSG).

This leads me to ponder… It seems we are called to walk present and face-to-face with the Life Light. Are we not called to “Walk in the Light, as He is in the Light”? (1 John 1:7). His life gives us light to live by. There is a light within us that the darkness cannot put out.

As in the metaphor of the Golden Hour, what if we walked in this face-to-face light, “blazing out the darkness” that is all around us? We are, after all, the light of the world.
My other thought is this … Did the incarnation of Christ 2,000 years ago, Light of life coming into the world, usher us into this golden era?

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face…” (Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus – Lyrics: Helen H. Lemmel).
