Recently, I talked with my mentor, and she suggested starting a gratitude journal. Her advice was simple – write down three things each day for which I am thankful. It sounded easy enough, so I began the next morning, before my quiet time with God. I stuck with the practice, and before long, I thought, “Remember this – you can write it down tomorrow.” This constant awareness of the people, moments, and things I was grateful for shifted my mindset. I began to feel lighter and happier, even in moments that otherwise would have been mundane or routine. I even started noticing the unseen benefits in more challenging circumstances. I realized that all of this was possible because of God’s omnipresence and as Tara Leigh Cobble from The Bible Recap says, “He’s where the joy is!”
I encourage you to try this practice throughout your day. While preparing dinner, you might find yourself thanking God for the groceries you have to make a nourishing meal for your family. As you fold laundry, you might pause to appreciate the privilege of using clean water and detergent. A walk outside might make you marvel at the beauty of God’s creation—have you ever truly stopped and appreciated a scene you pass by every day?
Invite Him into every moment. I’m sure you’ll be amazed at how much joy you can find in holding on to the goodness He generously gives us daily.
