Turn the Page

Do you feel like you are in transition? Do you feel things changing in your life and you’re not sure where it’s going? Do you feel like you have obeyed God up to this point and now there is nothing, silence, no direction, no open door to the next thing? I sure have and I imagine many of you have too.

God showed me the clearest picture today. I am currently reading a very good book. Each chapter is full of great information, riveting stories and life changing principles. I get to the end of one chapter and I can hardly wait to start the next. But, I noticed something as I was reading the other night. Some chapters end at the bottom of the page and the next chapter begins immediately. Some chapters end in the middle of the page and there is just blank space. God showed me that this is a lot like life. Sometimes one chapter in our life leads right into the next. Sometimes, there is blank space before the next chapter begins – silence, nothing.

What do we sometimes do in these moments? We become anxious because the story seems to have stalled. We feel like the author may have forgotten that there is more to come and has left us to end this way. We try to begin writing the story ourselves.

We begin to ask ourselves questions like: Is the story over? Does it take a sharp downturn from here? What’s next? What if it’s not good? Shouldn’t something be filling up this page in my life? We feel like because there is silence, He has stopped writing. I have good news for you! It’s not the end of the story. It’s just the beginning of a new chapter!

God’s word to us is don’t lose heart in the silence. God says, “Rest. Rest in the blank space, rest in the pause, rest in the silence. You expend needless energy when you try to write the story yourself. Rest and save up that energy because when the page is turned, there’s a new chapter and it’s filled with adventure, excitement, joy and Me!”
