Fake news. Misinformation wars. Distorted facts. Telling “my truth.” These phrases form part of the new cultural language. The very existence of these terms shows that people yearn for truth. The enemies of truth attempt to bombard us with twisted logic and emotionally loaded propaganda.
The prophet Isaiah details the darkness of what it’s like when, “Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has stumbled in the street …” Isaiah 59:14. We have lived to see the day of evil being called good, and good evil. Many are buying into this false narrative. Confusion is rampant. Where is truth?
There is good news. As Christians, we can know the truth. The Bible references truth over 200 times, as well as detailing the harmful aspects of deception. Scripture tells us the Word of God is truth. Proverbs advises us to buy (invest in) the truth. The Holy Spirit was sent to guide us into truth.
Our Pastor recently spoke of the belt of truth from God’s armor. The belt covers the loins, protecting the organs of reproduction and elimination. We need to arm ourselves spiritually with this belt to reproduce truth in those we touch and eliminate the enemy’s lies.
The Bible is refreshingly straightforward. Jesus makes a claim that is astonishingly bold. “I am the way, the truth, and the life …” John 14:6. He said it without mumbling, disclaimer or apology. We can press in to know Him, THE TRUTH. Recognition of truth becomes easier because we know it agrees with the tenor of scripture. Knowing Him gives truth a familiar voice we can trust to lead us forward during these difficult times.
