True Worship: Not What You Do, Who You Are

In the book of John, Jesus says that the father is seeking True Worshipers. It is interesting that he doesn’t say that he is seeking people to worship, but worshipers. He says “worshipers” and not people who worship because it is who they are, not something they do.

You have all put out a fire. Maybe a kitchen fire or a campfire, but at the very least you have blown out a candle. However, just because you put out a fire doesn’t make you a fireman. The difference is whenever the fireman’s pager goes off he stops what he is do-ing and puts out a fire. It doesn’t matter if he is asleep or is halfway through a steak dinner. He stops what he is doing and leaves. Why? Because that is who he is. In the same way that is what God wants us to be. Not someone who worships on occasions (Sundays or Wednesdays), but true worshipers who when their Holy Spirit pager goes off they stop what they are doing and worship their Father. Whether they are driving to work, asleep in the bed or hanging out with friends. If God is seeking worship, that’s what they do because that is who they are. I encourage all of us to stop just worshiping and become the True Worshipers that the Father seeks.
