To Him Alone

To Him Alone

“I will worship only You.”  “I will bow down before only you, Lord.”

As I sang these words during worship, I was struck with the realization that I have found myself bowed down with the cares of this life and that I was not bowing down before God, but before all my cares. I cannot be worshiping God when I am bowing before altars of burdens, fear, sorrow, guilt, and shame.

The enemy knows that we are created to worship. Jesus, himself, was tempted to bow down and worship Satan. His answer was to quote the Word: “Away from me, Satan, for it is written: ‘Worship the Lord, your God, and serve Him only.’”

We WILL worship, we WILL bow down. It is in our very nature to do so, and we have an enemy that will use that against us.

Jesus is our example, tempted in every way that we are…and yet sinless. When he was tempted, he claimed the promises of the Word. He walked this earth being rooted and grounded in the promises. He went to the cross clinging to those promises.

We, too, can worship Him in the middle of the storms of life, claiming His promises; rejoicing in the testing. We can do this because His promises, like His love, grace and mercy, do not waver.

We are going to worship. We are going to bow down. But, will it be to Him alone?  If it is not to Him alone, it is not to Him at all.
