When you think of someone that you love deeply, you usually see their face in your mind first. Then, the reasons why you love them come to mind.
Recently, in a quiet time, I began to think about some of the reasons why I love Jesus. This is directly from my journal:
Why Do I love Jesus?
Faithful – That’s who you are. Faithful is high fidelity, never sounding an uncertain tone. It’s always true – never sharp, flat or dissonant. You are immutable – the ability to never change. You will NEVER be different. You will NEVER lie. You will NEVER go away from me. You will NEVER turn your face from me. It will always shine on my face even when my fists are clenched over my eyes.
Gracious – full of grace. It exceeds me – it staggers me – it humbles me – yes, it transforms me. Grace covers me. Even your voice is gracious – it is gentle and hushed….but it breaks me.
Peace Speaker – You are never overcome by chaos – never overwhelmed by the cacophony of life. When I’m standing on a slippery rock in a raging river, your mighty hand comes under me. The water still roils, but unspoken peace screams, “Safety!” “Rescue!” You speak with no language.
Redeemer – You walked into a shattered, damaged life and saw the sign “condemned”. You sniffed at that sign. Then you emptied everything You were – All that was yours, by inheritance, and You paid the banker and You bought me back. You redeemed me – You adopted me and then You kicked down that sign!
Why do I love Jesus? That’s why.
