I awakened today with the great old hymns “Standing on the Promises” and “Trust and Obey” on my mind. As I pondered the words of these great hymns, I was reminded that lyrics like these were written during times of great distress for the writers.
During times of anxiety, when it feels we are carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders, we have the opportunity to STOP, and go to our Heavenly Father’s Word, give Him our burdens and REST in HIS promises of peace and victory for our daily living. We can exchange our burdens for His blessings!
Today, I give you reminders of God’s Word that have given me peace and strength in troublesome times. Enjoy just a couple of these promises, and may we all desire to grow deeper in His Word.
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30, KJV)
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11, KJV)
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7, KJV)
“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20, KJV)
