Last week, I noticed the Lord trying to tell me something. I witnessed three different bird species, each with a crippled foot. “Okay, Lord, You must have a lesson for me. I’m listening.”
In the Spirit’s gentle manner, He taught me that, like those birds, I was crippled in my walk with Him, due to a couple of obstacles I wasn’t letting go of. One was consumerism, and my attempt to soothe my weary soul with things that add to life’s burdens.
Have you ever tried to travel with a huge suitcase without wheels? Every step feels like a struggle, and you’re constantly fighting against the extra weight. Our spiritual walk can feel this way, too, burdened by things that were never meant for us to carry.
What are the burdens you’re carrying? It might be unforgiveness, a secret struggle, an unhealthy relationship, or even the weight of worry and doubt. These things don’t just slow us down; they trip us up, making our walk with God feel heavy.
But we were not created to live burdened. Jesus invites us to a different kind of life, one of lightness and freedom. He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30, NIV).
Today, let’s take a moment to identify one thing we can lay down at His feet. By intentionally releasing what holds us back, we open our hands to receive the grace, peace, and strength He freely offers. We can walk in the true lightness of His love.
