Let There Be Light!

Ever been afraid of the dark? Darkness can bring opportunities for imaginary danger or perceived threats. Guess what? Danger is a REAL consideration. John 3:19, “…men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil.”

So, how is darkness dispelled? In the natural, we utilize headlights, streetlights, lamps, fireplaces, flashlights, and even huge floodlights. A sense of security and confidence comes as we employ these visual enhancements. Why? It’s because we can clearly see – the road ahead, the print of our book, or the oncoming obstacles.

God’s LIGHT does the same for us spiritually. His word: GUIDES our steps, like a tarmac lit to land a plane. “Your word is a lamp to my feet, a LIGHT to my path.” Psalm 119:105.

BRINGS CHEER, like a flickering candle or warm fireplace. “The Lord is my LIGHT and my salvation, of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1.

OFFERS SAFETY, like a lighthouse in a raging storm. “…the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as LIGHT to you.” Psalm 139:12.

REVEALS DANGER, like flashing lights for a washed-out bridge. “…and what communion has LIGHT with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14.

Jesus said, “I am the LIGHT of the world, whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the LIGHT of life.” John 8:12.

And that’s the best part! We are NOT the LIGHT – we carry the LIGHT! It is HIS LIGHT in us, and it brings warmth, security, confidence, and conviction. It then spills out of us to our culture. Darkness and LIGHT cannot co-exist. That means we can be safe and secure as we obey the LIGHT of the world and release Him to OUR world.
