When we say, “I go to this or that church” our mindset changes from Christ’s original intent. He is the head of the body. We ARE the church. It is not the place we go on Sundays to be ENTERTAINED by “those in charge.” Having a great worship leader and a dynamic pastor is wonderful – but they are not the church. We have an important part to play in the success of His church in our location, under leadership authority. The church has “gone Hollywood.” What does that mean? Church has changed with the culture. Watching (either online or in-house) has replaced participating.
When the Body of Christ works at its optimum, we should be like a well-oiled machine; each joint supplies so that all working parts move harmoniously. Meeting together regularly is essential to coming “in tune” with the rest of the body – their needs and gifts. The functioning church is NOT the weekly meeting but extends to all areas of life.
Think of your body when your hand rubs those tense muscles in your neck. Your legs help your back lift something heavy. Each part is interdependent and important.
How do we develop that cohesive body that Christ modeled with his disciples? He took a ragtag bunch and caused them to spend time with Him and each other so that they worked in unity to bring together His foundational vision for His church. That ragtag bunch describes us, so at the very least we should pray for our part and bring support where we can. I am not saying “do it all” but ask the Lord for “your part.” Don’t think “center stage.” Share a scripture, encourage, and help where you can. Pray. Hollywood has problems. Let’s not go there! Participate – be a “living stone” in His church.
