Housework Insight

Doing housework can seem boring and mundane. I, personally, enjoy it. Removing dust, smudges, wrinkles, grease, and dirt is satisfying. One day, it became a surprising insight.

There were eight children in our family. My Mom diligently trained my sisters and me to clean the house. It was expected to be completed on time, and all our work was inspected!

Recently, one Friday morning, I was using our handy-dandy Shark vacuum on the living room carpet. When I got to where the carpet ended and the hardwood floor of the kitchen began, I stopped short!

That hardwood floor had just moments before been thoroughly swept with an electric sweeper. What was I seeing – debris and dust?

Well, there was a bright light on the front of the Shark, and that light revealed small amounts of debris I didn’t even know were there! I’d just swept the entire area!

As I continued, the light revealed dust, crumbs, and lint.

Everything can look copacetic, in order, and clean. But a bright light reveals what may be hidden in unseen corners. I ran that Shark light all over that hardwood kitchen floor. I realized this could apply to me!

Are there small corners of my life collecting debris? Do I “sweep over” my daily landscape? Am I careful about the small things that collect?

Ephesians 5:13: “But everything exposed by the light BECOMES visible.”

I must be circumspect about my personal comportment. I must, daily, allow the brilliant light of God’s truth to shine in every corner of my heart home. All kinds of yucky grime may lurk there.

What things? Anger, worry, resentment, unforgiveness, or even bad attitudes.

My housework insight became a prayer: Shine the Light!
