In the church of my youth, the word “dancing” was spelled with a capital D. Pre-marital sex was discouraged because it may have led to Dancing! (a joke). But you get the idea. So…I never went to a prom or a dance. Even dancing at a wedding was prohibited.
But, I’ve learned to dance – all by myself – and guess what my dance floor is? The graves of the enemy’s lies that I once believed. “He has nothing to do with the truth, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44) Too many times I fell for his words. He spoke quietly and in the first person. So sneaky.
LIE:
“I’m bad and unloveable. God just tolerates me.”
TRUTH:
“I have redeemed you.” (Isaiah 43:1) “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” (Jeremiah 31:3)
LIE:
“My past IS the real me.”
TRUTH:
“You will hurl (I love that word) ALL my iniquities into the depths of the sea.” (Micah 7:9)
LIE:
“I’m still not good enough. I need to work harder.”
TRUTH:
“And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works.” (Romans 11:6)
“My grace is sufficient for you.” (II Corinthians 12:9)
LIE:
“I’m afraid. Do I really trust God?”
TRUTH:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (II Corinthians 5:7)
“God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid.” (Isaiah 12:2)
LIE:
“Change is too hard. I’m stuck.”
TRUTH:
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” (Psalm 32:8)
God’s word liberates, anchors, encourages and it BURIES lies. AND…”There IS a time to dance.” (Ecclesiastes 3:4)
Yep! I can feel it! My toes are tapping and I’m ready to dance on those graves. Care to join me?
