Burden Bearing

Burden Bearing

In Galatians 6:2 we are told to carry each other’s burdens and fulfill the law.

In Galatians 6:5 we are told to bear our own burdens.

I am not sure about you, but that seems like an overwhelming amount of burden to bear.

Years ago I felt this overwhelm me, and I told the Lord “I feel like Atlas, carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders.”

The gentle answer I heard was “Who told you to carry all those burdens?”

In my mind, I saw myself emptying a heavy backpack and only putting back the burdens that the Lord specifically told me were mine. I was then able to handle the weight of the burden.

What I needed, and still very much need today is to remind myself of what Jesus said about our burden bearing.

“Come unto Me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light” Matthew 11:28.

So, we are to bear one another’s burdens, and our own burdens; And experience the ease and lightness of the yoke and burden that Christ gives us.

We come to Him when we are weary and burdened because we are carrying more than we should. It is not ours to bear but Christ’s.

In Him we find rest and the opportunity to learn from the gentle and humble heart of Jesus.
