Being Perfected In Love

Being Perfected in Love

I John 4:18: ”There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.”

If we fear or worry, we are not perfected in God’s love. This is not a condemning message; rather, it is a message of hope – a message I desperately need right now. So, I write this to myself.

We are all in the process of being perfected in His love, and the process is called life. Life provides us with daily, if not moment by moment, opportunities to experience the love of the Father. These “opportunities” are also called trials. Each trial presents a choice to fear or to believe in the goodness of an almighty, loving Father.

I can choose to give way to fear and worry, a dark and lonely path with no hope, or I can choose the road of faith and trust in my Abba Father. This is the road that will bring me an experiential encounter with the love of God. It is a choice between light and darkness, life and death, involving my thoughts as well as my actions. Every time I experience the love of God and am more convinced that He is not out to punish me, I am equipped to stand firm in the next trial of life. I am, as I write this, being perfected in His love.
