You’ve probably heard the saying “hurting people hurt others,” haven’t you?
The world is filled with pain and hurting people, and the devil does his best to bring offense, strife, and disharmony to God’s people. He knows how destructive unforgiveness can be. That’s why it’s such a problem among believers who often find themselves in bondage because of their bitterness and anger.
We can be thankful that God has given each of us a tool to disappoint and defeat the devil – and that is forgiveness. Forgiveness doesn’t just bring healing to our souls, but it’s also a lifeline of faith that demonstrates our obedience to our heavenly Father.
When we’re quick to forgive others, we release that part of our lives that ties us up in knots when we think about the past. When we’re quick to forgive, we essentially give our hurts to the Lord so that He can transform our emotions and heal our deepest pain.
It doesn’t matter how many people have offended us or have downright abused us. What does matter is that forgiveness can help heal us of our sorrow. Forgiveness keeps Satan at bay so that he cannot go on the offensive in our lives. It ends strife that tears our relationships apart and that keeps us in a wounded state of mind.
Colossians 3:13 encourages us, “bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”
God wants you to make forgiveness part of your intimate walk with Him. And when you do, you can experience a newfound freedom that will lead you into everlasting peace and joy.
