“You changed my sorrow in to dancing. You took away my clothes of sadness, and clothed me in happiness. I will sing to you and not be silent. Lord, my God, I will praise you forever.” ~Psalm 30:11,12
A friend once told me that her son didn’t realize that life didn’t have a sound track until he was three. One day in a quiet grocery store, the boy had a stalled look in his eyes and asked, “Where’s the music, Mommy?” He realized for the first time in all his three years that there’s not always music surrounding our lives.
Just like this little boy, I believe that some of us are shocked when life’s music suddenly stops and there’s quiet. What do we do with the silence? We can either begin to live in silence or make our own music. There are times when God turn off the radio of our lives with sorrow, loss, concern or something else that requires us to be still. In that quiet place, God begins to teach us our own song.
Have you ever tried to sing a song with another song playing in the background? It’s difficult to remember the words and nearly impossible to sing in tune. Thank God for the quiet times, because it is out of these places that all music is created. So, whether you have a country song, a rap or an opera in your spirit, sing it unto the Lord and share it with the world. When you’re feeling down and you hear an upbeat song, doesn’t it lift your spirits? When you want to express your love for someone, isn’t it amazing when there’s a song that says it all for you?
I’m not saying that we’re all musically inclined. In fact, the only time you’ll catch me singing loudly is in my car when I can’t even hear myself. However, I believe we all have a song in the spiritual realm that we can sing to each other, with God as the director. Use what God has given you, with your own style and words, and see what beautiful music God can produce through you!
