Your Greatest Ministry is NOW

Your Greatest Ministry is NOW

Many people become stuck in what they believe was the greatest season of their ministry. They replay it, talk about it, and quietly try to replicate it: They think, “when I led that ministry… when I taught that class… when I felt most effective.”

But here’s the hard question: How long ago was that? Five, ten, or twenty years? More?

What once testified to God’s faithfulness can quietly become a measuring stick—and that comparison often brings discouragement. Confidence wanes. Joy feels distant. We may try to reproduce a season God has completed, or we quietly assume it could never be “that” again. That tension can leave us unsure of our next step. We hesitate. We freeze—because trusting God with something new feels more vulnerable than holding on to what once felt familiar and fruitful.

Scripture presents a sobering picture of this tension through the life of John the Baptist. Once, crowds gathered by the river. His voice thundered. His calling was clear. Later, John sat in prison while Jesus was actively ministering. The spotlight had shifted, the season changed. From his confinement, John sent a question to Jesus, “Is this really unfolding like this?”

Jesus didn’t shame him. He reminded him that God was still at work—just not in the expected way, and not through the role John once held.

Here is the invitation for us: Stop asking God to recreate what He already finished. That season served its purpose. It was faithful. It was fruitful. And it is complete.
The more important question is, “What is God doing NOW in your life and ministry?”

Freedom comes when we trust that the God who was faithful then is faithfully leading us now—not calling us back to the past, but forward to the purpose that awaits.
