In the Absence of a Tree

In the Absence of a Tree

Do you ever feel alone, even invisible, in the midst of a crowd? Do you perceive fellow believers towering over you in spiritual stature? Do you fade into the background, thinking you are on your own?

Luke 19:1-10 tells the wonderful story of Zacchaeus, the chief tax collector who climbed a tree so he could see Jesus. Many commentaries and sermons focus on the sinful man who desperately sought Jesus and found salvation. I appreciate yet another lesson in the narrative…

Jesus the Seeker – El Roi, the God who sees the unseen.

The Bible is packed with examples of God seeking the lost sinners. But remember, He never loses sight of His saved and sanctified children. El Roi sees our tears, knows us better than we know ourselves, understands us to the core, and sees who we are and what we will become. He sees what we suffer, never leaving us as He leads us to safety.

We do not need to climb a tree in order for God to find us. One of our strongest weapons against feelings of inadequacy, loneliness, and defeat is to recognize our position in Christ. When we deeply understand how to rest in His love for us, it becomes impossible to doubt His friendship and presence in our every situation.

In “Sit, Walk, Stand”, Watchman Nee explains the importance of knowing that we are seated with Christ. “Christian life begins with a man ‘in Christ’…when by faith we see ourselves seated together with Him in the heavens.”

If you ever feel unseen, remember that Jesus is sitting right there with you. Open your spiritual eyes and see that you can walk with Him because you are seated next to Him—no tree required.
