Isolation is a deceptive tactic of the enemy. The truth is that mankind was not created to be alone, “all one” to himself. From creation, we see that God declared that it was not good for man to be alone.
In Ephesians 4, Paul makes it abundantly clear that we are all a part of the body- “joined and held together by every supporting ligament, growing and building itself up in love, as each does its work. This is why in verse 17, Paul insists that we no longer do like the Gentiles do in the futility of their thinking…separated (isolated) from the life of God.
I use “I” solated because I am reminded of the passage in Isaiah 14, “ how you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! …you said in your heart ‘I will raise my throne above the stars of God: I will make myself like the most high”. This is what happens when we isolate ourselves, and become “all one” to our selves -arrogance, with the end results of creating for and in ourselves, our own god.
There is also the “I can not” victim mentality of seeing ourselves so separated that we find ourselves a hopeless victim of our circumstances. The god we created is not big enough, or caring enough to move on our behalf.
So, how do we combat isolation? I believe it is in seeing our selves as a vital part of a whole. We are vital to the body, and the body is vital to us. What would the body be like if we realized God’s intention to build us up as a body, connected in such a way that we can only fully function if we are fully connected- to each other and to the Head, which is Christ?
