On most mornings, we ask ourselves, “What should I wear?” The answer depends on such things as the weather, destination, what’s available in our closet, and what’s appropriate. We’ve ALL seen inappropriate attire and we know it matters!
In Isaiah 61:3, God provides “a garment of praise.” Psalm 100:4 says, “ENTER His courts with praise.” So, the FIRST step into His presence is with praise. We put on praise FIRST. I have that printed on a card on my mirror as a reminder.
Starting each day putting on the garment of praise is a great habit. The word garment is from the French, meaning “equipment’. Praise equips us for battle.
Praise is a robust, strategic weapon that is always appropriate. Psalm 18:3, “I call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.” Despair is a weapon of our enemy. Praise dispels despair.
Grumbling, complaining, or negative attitudes can fill our Spirit closets. It is easy to grab them and put them on without much thought. And, so our day begins.
God’s desire is for us to CHOOSE praise as our garment. Praise draws us to God, strengthens our walk, encourages our faith and settles our soul.
Perhaps our garment of praise has become worn, wrinkled, pushed somewhere in the back of our spirit closets. Despair may have replaced where Praise used to be. Philippians 4:9, “The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, PRACTICE these things.”
We can start practicing the habit of putting on the beautiful garment of praise FIRST. Just imagine if we were dressed in praise every day – clothed in praise at home, at work, at school. We could never be more perfectly attired than in His glory. Dilemma solved!
