God rescued Israel out of Egypt, through Moses. Following Moses’s death, God chose Joshua to lead Israel into the promised land. The Lord said in Joshua 1:5-6, “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.”
We can only wonder how Joshua felt as God spoke these words to him. God chose him to lead the people so they could inherit the land. Scripture says Joshua quickly ordered the officers to tell the people that in three days, they would cross the Jordan. Joshua chose obedience and the Lord covered him in more promises. Be strong and courageous, I will never leave you. God’s vow to give Israel the promised land was now to be fulfilled, through Joshua.
We too may rest in the promises made by God to Joshua. In return for obedience, the Lord will protect us. God keeps his word, and he is always in control. No matter the assignment, following the Lord leads to victory.
How are God’s promises being accomplished through you?
