Peace Beyond Understanding

Philippians 4:7 says,“And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your minds and hearts through Christ Jesus.”

The verse prior to this says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”

Faith will alter your perception of reality. If you want peace beyond understanding, you must give up your right to understanding.

In the darkest moments of grief, fear and uncertainty, “the Lord is at hand.” When we do not understand, the Lord is wanting to give us that peace which is beyond our understanding.

We are told to “Trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding, and to acknowledge Him and all our ways, and He will direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

The choice is ours. We can assert our right to understanding by demanding that we know why, but it’s a path that will not lead us to a place of peace.

In this place there is constant worry and fear. It is a place where we cannot pray with thanksgiving wearing a garment of praise because we are wearing a spirit of heaviness ( Isaiah 61:3). It is a place of leaning on our own understanding, not trusting Him with all our heart and acknowledging Him in all our ways.

The truth is, Jesus will lead us in paths of peace, if we learn to trust His ways. Understanding this, and believing this, will alter our perception of reality that is beyond our understanding.
