The One Who Goes Before Me

The One Who Goes Before Me

And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together- Colossians 1:17

An image was painted in my mind’s eye while reading this passage recently. Within my imagination I was on a hazardous trail that appeared to be curving up and around a mountain. Nervous and afraid, not knowing what was ahead, I paused to catch my breath. I took in the surroundings and mustered up enough courage to keep walking. When suddenly a much stronger, more fit, much more confident person than me appeared up ahead and waived me up the trail. A scout that went ahead of me gave me advice on how to navigate the trail.

Life sometimes feels exactly like that. It can leave us breathless and afraid. Colossians 1 shows me that God is my scout. A scout is someone who is sent out ahead to gather information about the enemy’s position, strength or movements. When I’m paralyzed by fear I can look ahead and see him there. When it’s time he waives me up. If it’s not the right time, he motions for me to stop. When rest is needed he leads me to streams of refreshing and when gusto is needed he grabs my hand and pulls me up that mountain.

If you are finding it difficult to push forward, or you feel lost or paralyzed in this moment, know that God goes before you. He’s already there. Look for him today to give you guidance on your journey. Listen for his voice and you’ll hear him. Seek Him and you’ll find Him.
