A Favorite Verse Revisited

Philippians 4:4-8 is one of my favorite scriptures. I have heard it countless times throughout my life and have committed it to memory as well. Sometimes, when I read something so many times, it becomes mechanical and does not evoke the reflection that I desire when I read God’s Word. Does that ever happen to you? Today, someone posted this cherished scripture using the Passion Translation and the beautiful message reminded me, once again, of the power of God’s Word! It also gave me my marching orders for the day!

“Be cheerful with joyous celebration in every season of life. Let joy overflow you, for you are united with the Anointed One! Let gentleness be seen in every relationship, for our Lord is ever near. Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell Him every detail of your life. Then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding will make the answers known to you through Jesus Christ. So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising Him always.”

What does that mean for me today?

  1. Be joyful in EVERY season
  2. Not only “be joyful,” but let joy OVERFLOW
  3. Let gentleness prevail in every relationship
  4. Don’t be pulled in different directions
  5. Don’t be worried about a thing
  6. Be saturated in prayer
  7. Offer requests to God with faith and gratitude
  8. Share every detail with Him
  9. Think the right things
  10. FASTEN my thoughts on God’s glorious works
  11. Praise Him ALWAYS
