Reliable Hope

Reliable Hope

It has been a tumultuous time in the world. I’ve found myself in lament, struggling to reconcile humanity with holiness. I’ve spent time in scripture and have had to really analyze my feelings against the Word of God and then repent and adjust my response. Recently, I realized that my biggest disappointments have come when I’ve put hope in the wrong places. When I put my hope in God, I’m never disappointed. One day, as I prayed, this poem formulated in my heart.

Reliable Hope

When I’m in the depths,
With life I cannot cope
You always turn up
With your reliable hope

I can’t catch my breath
The chaos suffocates me
The breath of heaven fills my lungs
I can choose to walk peaceably

When people swirl about
They leave me disappointed
I lean on You
I remember only a remnant walks anointed

You! My Reliable Hope
Always there, more than enough
Constantly dependable, I put my guard down
I’m learning with each day; I don’t have to be so tough

Oh! Reliable Hope
In the middle of humanity, I yearn for holy
Your grace meets me here
You light up the dark places and I see my own foolery

Thank you, Reliable Hope
For meeting me with arms open wide
I open my heart, You wipe my tears
You prepare me to go against the tide
