IF… THEN

There is a truth in science called “If – Then”.  It simply means that if certain factors are in place, then the results will always be the same – guaranteed. When the results are not what is expected, it is the if of the equation that needs to be examined.

In the spiritual realm, the same principle applies. We know that God is true and cannot lie. We know His promises are true. Yet, we stumble at His promises when we do not see the results we expected in our lives. We wonder where God is and why He is not making good on His word.

When I read Mathew 11:28, I asked myself these very questions. I felt weary and burdened. I certainly was not experiencing the rest that He promised.  The Lord highlighted the words “learn from me”.  I had come to Him, wasn’t that enough? I need to learn from Him? How do we learn form someone? I thought of Mary, sitting at the feet of Jesus, soaking in every word. If we do not learn from Him, how will we know what His easy yoke and light burden are?

I am learning that when I am not experiencing the then of God’s promises for me, I need to examine the if. That is the only variable in the equation, and it is my end of the equation to fulfill. There are no variation in God or His promises.
“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”

If  you come, I will give you rest.

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

If  you take My yoke, and learn from Me, you will find rest for your souls.
