Philippians 2:9, “Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name.”
The other morning as I was dressing for church, I thought about Christ being exalted in my life. Here’s what came.
How is anything exalted? The words means “elevated”, so how do I “elevate” Christ? Here’s the picture:
A person carrying the American flag and attaching it, then pulling on the cords and watching it reach the pinnacle of the flagpole. Then securing the cords and stepping away. The flag has been elevated (exalted) and waves in all its glory. Maybe that’s why it’s called “Old Glory”.
Since most of my spiritual understanding comes in pictures, I asked God for a nudge to get to a simple truth of this picture of the flag raising. Do I want Christ exalted in me? Okay:
1. I must have Him IN me. He is carried inside me, abiding in me as the flag carrier possessed the flag.
2. Christ must be attached to me by the bonds of eternity in me. These cords are the seat of my desires and my will.
3. Then I must take those life cords and hoist them to a place of preeminence in my life.
4. Next I make sure the cords are wrapped securely around the anchor of the flag pole of my will.
5. Then I step away and let the glory of our exalted Savior be observed.
No one pays much attention to an empty flagpole. And no one stays around to take bows after raising the flag. The majesty of the flag speaks for itself.
Passersby are drawn to its stateliness and its meaning. The flag is mute, but it speaks volumes to those who observe its grandness.
The flag raisers are nowhere to be seen. It’s all about what has been exalted.
And I thought, “That’s what I want. To elevate Jesus, my Savior, and let others observe and be drawn to HIS glory.”
